Bonang Matheba bags R300K in defamation case

By: Lolo Mhlanga

Media personality and businesswoman Bonang Matheba has proved the best way to deal with cyberbullying.

Queen B, as she is known to her fans, took to Twitter to announce she had won her defamation case against YouTuber and Vlogger Rea Gopane.

Matheba posted a series of tweets to announce her victory on Friday. The 34-year-old filed the lawsuit against Gopane in May 2021 when he made allegations in a widely spread video that Bonang introduced her ex-boyfriend AKA ( Kienan Forbes) to Cocaine. He further insinuated the death of AKA’s late fiancé, Anele Tembe, was due to AKA’s alleged use of Cocaine.

Matheba’s legal team instructed him to apologise publicly and retract the claims. She also demanded financial compensation to the sum of R500 000 within 10 days.

Gopane issued an apology but failed to fulfil payment which landed him in Court and resulted in the legal battle between the two. Mathebe eagerly twitted in January, “Courts are open, time to rock.”

Gopane appeared unfazed by the tweet and responded by saying: “The incomparable Bonang Matheba is still mad she took a shot and missed last year. Thanks, but I don’t need your good luck. See you soon, mom.”

Mathebe added that Gopane would have to share his earnings with her for the next 30 years to cover the total amount.

In the comment section, Bonang’s supporters were overjoyed by the news with many saying: “Let this victory be a lesson to many.”
